Trans Without Abuse

The situation
Domestic abuse charity, MyCWA, saw a gap in the support being provided for the transgender & nonbinary communities, and sort to set up the first by and for trans domestic abuse service in the UK.
I had the honour of helping them with the design and UX of their website as part of my volunteer work for MyCWA.
1 in 2 Trans people will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.
Establishing user goals
I identified two main user groups for the site: survivors and professionals. I focused on ensuring that both groups could easily achieve their goals.
For survivors (trans people seeking support), the priority is finding information, as quickly as possible, to get help with their experiences of domestic abuse, so I made this the primary call-to-action (CTA) in the homepage header.
Professionals, who are a key source of income for the charity, also needed to feel that the website catered to their needs. I therefore ensured that this user group clearly understood the site was designed for them as well.

After reviewing and annotating each page of the existing site, I created mockups and shared my initial ideas with the client. I then used their feedback to implement the changes on their Squarespace-hosted site.
My main objectives were to ensure that the page layouts would be easy for the client to update independently, as they have limited resources for web design—hence my decision to volunteer for this project. I also focused on keeping both user groups in mind, making it as simple as possible for them to achieve their goals. Additionally, I aimed to enhance the site's visual appeal to increase visitor trust and engagement.
